The form player of the year, Mark Allen, won yet another tournament at the World Grand Prix on Sunday. Now, we have some light relief in the form of the Snooker Shoot Out. We’ve previewed this one for you and, as always, provided you our best bets for the occasion.
Snooker Shoot Out 2023 Tips
History and format
The Snooker Shoot Out is a single frame knock out tournament and whilst it is sometimes looked down upon by the sports top players, it’s status as a ranking event and popularity with the viewing public make it must watch TV.
The tournament dates back to 2011 and became a ranking event in 2017.
The event was first held at the Circus Arena in Blackpool and over the years has moved around the UK. For the last two running’s, it’s been held at Leicester’s Morningside Arena.
A field of 128 will line up this week and the tournament usually produces unusual or first time winners. No player inside the top 16 has ever won the event.
Previous winners here include the defending champion Hossein Vafaei (40/1), Ryan Day (50/1), Michael Holt (80/1), Thepchaiya Un-Nooh (125/1), Michael Georgiou (125/1) and Barry Hawkins (28/1).
The tournament runs from Wednesday 25th to Saturday 28th January and will be broadcast by Eurosport.

Barry Hawkins each-way (1/2 2 places) – 28/1
The unpredictable nature of this tournament means we’ve never had a multiple winner of the event but that could change with 2012 winner Barry Hawkins.
The 43-year-old beat Graeme Dott 11 years ago in the final and is probably playing his best snooker since that period at the moment.
The Hawk reached the final of the Masters and is a terrific break builder, essential for this quick natured shoot out.
Wish so many of the top players opting out of this event, it could be a great opportunity for Hawkins to win again.
Zhou Yuelong each-way (1/2 2 places) – 33/1
2020 Snooker Shoot Out runner-up Yuelong, looks a good price to go one better in 2023.
The 24-year-old reached the final of the Northern Ireland Open this year, where he was beaten by Mark Allen and is in pretty good nick.
With 22 century breaks this season, Yuelong is in 13th for tons made and this tournament should suit him.
