With a win against fourth-seeded Jacksonville, top-seed Kansas City will advance to the AFC Championship Game for the fifth consecutive year when they clash at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday (21:30).

Jacksonville are searching for their first appearance in the AFC Championship Game since 2017, and it took a historic, come-from-behind performance for the Jaguars to get to this stage, as they climbed out of an early 27-0 first-half deficit to notch a last-second 31-30 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Saturday’s clash is a rematch from the Week 10 game, won 27-17 by the Chiefs despite three turnovers. Since then, however, the Jaguars are 7-1, but they face a stern task of overthrowing a battle-tested Chiefs side led by MVP favourite Patrick Mahomes.

Team News

For the Chiefs, Mecole Hardman is dealing with a pelvic strain, Joe Thuney should be available despite spraining his ankle, L’Jarius Sneed has a sore hip and Skyy Moore could be out due to a hand injury.

As for Jacksonville, Luke Fortner saw limited practice time in midweek because of a sore back, Brandon Scherff should be available despite a minor problem with his abdomen, Ross Matiscik is also dealing with back spasms and Kendric Pryor might not be available due to a shoulder injury.

Kansas City Chiefs (-8.5 Handicap) @ 10/11

The Chiefs have won four of their last five games at home against AFC teams, which is why I’m backing them on the spread here.

Andy Reid’s side had the week to rest up and prepare, taking advantage of being the lone AFC team to get a bye for this season. The last time Kansas City were in action, they cruised to a 31-13 road victory over the Raiders.

Kansas City also beat Jacksonville with relative ease in their lone meeting this season, notching a 10-point home win back in Week 10. The Jaguars showed their resilience, but ultimately, the Chiefs had too much firepower, and I expect a similar outcome on Saturday.

#PickYourPunt – Patrick Mahomes to throw a touchdown pass in each half @ 4/6

Mahomes is enjoying a fantastic season as he attempts to win his second ring.

He is a leading candidate for league MVP, breaking the single-season passing yards record which was previously held by Drew Brees.

What has become branded as ‘Mahomes Magic’ around Kansas City tends to shine brightest this time of year, and the results are downright incredible – he has never failed to reach the AFC Championship Game in his four years as a starter, twice going to the Super Bowl and once winning the MVP award while also ending the Chiefs’ 50-year title drought.

My point is; he comes alive during the postseason, and I’m expecting big things on Saturday.
