The Premier League action continues this weekend, with West Ham United welcoming Everton to the London Stadium on Saturday (15:00) in a crucial clash at the bottom of the table. We’ve previewed the game and picked out our two best bets for you.
West Ham vs Everton Tips
Over the last seven matches, West Ham United have picked up just one point, while Everton have collected two, so this is a pivotal match for both David Moyes and Frank Lampard.
The Hammers only sit above the Toffees on goal difference, and have gone seven games without a win, while Lampard’s side are winless in nine. The last of those losses was particularly damaging, with bottom-of-the-table Southampton coming from behind to claim a 2-1 victory.
Despite comfortably taking his side through as group winners in the UEFA Europa Conference League earlier in the season, Premier League survival will be the priority for Moyes and his players.
Something has to give at the London Stadium but it promises to be a nervy occasion in which neither team can afford to lose.
Team News
New signing Danny Ings could come straight into contention having joined the Hammers this week from Aston Villa, especially when considering the game’s importance.
Maxwel Cornet is the only injury absentee for West Ham.
As for the visitors, Andros Townsend and James Garner are back in training but are not expected to feature here.
Lampard could opt for a back five again here, despite the defeat against Southampton, given the Toffee’s performances away from home against Manchester City and Manchester United when deploying that formation.
West Ham to win @ 4/5
Despite the Hammers’ woeful form, Everton are somehow playing worse.
In addition, three of West Ham’s victories this season have been on home soil, recording wins over Wolves and Bournemouth, while also beating Fulham.
Despite their rotten run of form, it is hard to imagine a team with such quality as West Ham’s staying near the bottom for much longer, and I believe they can start their escape from the drop with a win here,
Under 2.5 Total Goals @ 8/11
Locating a regular source of goals has been the main problem for West Ham this season, as they have netted only 15 goals in 19 Premier League outings, and Said Benrahma and Gianluca Scamacca are their leading scorers with just three.
The same can be said for Everton, who have also struggled to find the back of the net. Demarai Gray’s equaliser against Manchester City marked Everton’s first goal in five away games.
Four of the last five Premier League meetings between these teams have featured just one goal, and given what is at stake, nerves can be expected and a low-scoring contest appeals.
