The ninth-placed Reds and 10th-placed Blues only have 28 points to boast from their top-flight outings approaching the midway point of the season – although Liverpool have a game in hand – so this could be a pivotal clash in the race for the top four places.
Liverpool have lost both their Premier League matches so far this year, however they returned to winning ways in the FA Cup, with a third-round replay victory over Wolves thanks to a brilliant strike from Harvey Elliot.
Chelsea have won only two of their last 10 Premier League games but did win their previous match against Crystal Palace.
However, despite their form, I find it hard to back against Liverpool at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah to score anytime
The Egyptian is having a relatively quiet season by his standards but he’s still scored 17 goals in 28 games in all competitions.
He scored in the most recent league meeting between the sides, and he hasn’t scored since Liverpool’s win away at Aston Villa on Boxing Day so I think he’s due a goal.
Trent Alexander-Arnold to be carded
The Liverpool full-back has picked up five cautions across all competitions this season, so I think he’s a decent shout to be booked here.
In fact, Alexander-Arnold was cautioned against Brighton & Hove Albion last time out and if he’s up against a tricky winger like Raheem Sterling or Christian Pulisic, the England international could find his way into the referee’s book.
