The midweek football action continues with six third round replays taking place over the next couple of nights. Here we have previewed Wednesday night’s tie at Elland Road, between Leeds United and Cardiff City. We’ve also provided you with our best bets for your attention.

Leeds vs Cardiff Tips

Leeds looked dead and buried, after 60 minutes against Cardiff in the first fixture. Goals from Rodrigo and a late, late goal from Sonny Perkins dragged the score back to 2-2 and secured a replay in West Yorkshire.

Cardiff were tremendous in the first hour, with goals from Jaden Philogene and Sheyi Ojo giving the struggling Championship side a well earned lead.

However, the Cardiff board pulled the plug on the short Mark Hudson tenure after a 1-1 draw against bottom club Wigan at the weekend, leaving the Bluebirds just one place above the relegation zone.

There have also been rumblings about Leeds boss Jesse Marsch’s future this week, with several rumours abounding a new manager is being lined up behind the scenes.

With that in mind, the American needs to start churning out positive results, beginning with a 3rd round win on Tuesday.

Team news:

Jesse Marsch is without the likes of Luis Sinisterra, Stuart Dallas, Crysencio Summerville, Adam Forshaw and Archie Gray. Patrick Bamford could be in line for a first start in three months, after scoring from the bench at the weekend.

Manager-less Cardiff may be tempted to switch round tactically following the departure of Mark Hudson. Only Mahlon Romeo is a confirmed absentee so Dean Whitehead has the full squad at his disposal.

Latest Leeds vs Cardiff Betfred Odds

Leeds to win and both teams to score – 15/8

Leeds haven’t won a game in their last seven but should have too much quality at home for a Cardiff side that has plummeted towards the bottom of the second tier.

The Welsh side will know that their big chance of the upset came at the Cardiff City Stadium and for all their endeavour, this could be a step too far.

I do expect them to breach a weak Leeds defence at lease once though.

Patrick Bamford first goal scorer – 3/1

Seeing Patrick Bamford’s name on the squad team sheet will have been a huge filip for Marsch and all Leeds fans.

The England international has suffered from multiple injuries for a good year or so now and needs a good run of games to get his form back.

Bamford scored against Villa in their 2-1 loss on Friday night and assuming he starts here, is a good bet for first goalscorer on the night.
