We have reached the second round in both the men’s and women’s draw at the 2023 Australian Open and there is more top-quality action to get stuck into on day three of the Grand Slam, including Emma Raducanu’s clash with Coco Gauff.
Reigning men’s champion Rafael Nadal will also be taking to the court against Mackenzie McDonald and the Spaniard is 1/12 to advance to the next stage of the competition at the expense of his American opponent, who is 6/1 to cause an upset.
British duo Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans are also in action across the day, as they take on Constant Lestienne and Jeremy Chardy respectively, while there is a huge meeting in the women’s draw with Caroline Garcia facing Leylah Fernandez.
Our four fold has focused on four other matches in Melbourne, providing a juicy 65/1 for this accumulator.
- Daniil Medvedev to beat John Millman 3-1 @ 10/3
- Felix Auger-Aliassime to beat Alex Molcan 3-0 @ 7/10
- Karolina Muchova to beat Danielle Collins @ 11/8
- Coco Gauff to beat Emma Raducanu 2-1 @ 11/4
Daniil Medvedev to beat John Millman 3-1 @ 10/3
Russian Daniil Medvedev has fallen at the final hurdle in the last two editions of the Australian Open, firstly losing out to Novak Djokovic in straight sets and then being ousted by Nadal in a five-set thriller.
The 2021 US Open champion is expecting another deep run Down Under and he started off his quest for a first Melbourne title with a convincing victory over Marcos Giron, who only managed to win three games in total.
It was a statement of intent from the former world number one and he will be feeling confident of overcoming John Millman, who needed five sets to get the better of Swiss Marc-Andrea Husler in his opener.
There was enough from that performance to suggest the Australian, who will be backed by the home crowd, can at least take a set in his encounter against Medvedev.
Felix Auger-Aliassime to beat Alex Molcan 3-0 @ 7/10
Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime started slowly in his opening match against compatriot Vasek Pospisil, losing the first set 6-1, before then roaring back to win the next three and take the match 3-1.
The 22-year-old’s monster serve gives him a good advantage on the hard courts and he will be aiming to use that to full effect against Alex Molcan, who came through an epic five-setter to defeat Stanislas Wawrinka in round one.
Molcan exerted a lot of effort and energy into that victory and he could pay for that against Auger-Aliassime, who enjoyed his best run in Melbourne last year when reaching the quarter-finals.
Karolina Muchova to beat Danielle Collins @ 11/8
Danielle Collins enjoyed a brilliant run to the final here 12 months ago, eventually finding Ashleigh Barty one step too far, but she faces a big effort to try and reach the showpiece event for the second year running.
The American, who could face Iga Swiatek in the fourth round, needed three sets to defeat Anna Kalinskaya in her opener and there were enough worries in that performance to suggest she will struggle up next against Karolina Muchova.
Czech star Muchova, a Melbourne semi-finalist in 2021, dropped just three games in her demolition of Lesia Tsurenko in her opener and there is every chance she can advance to round three.
Coco Gauff to beat Emma Raducanu 2-1 @ 11/4
Britain’s Emma Raducanu allayed fears over her fitness when beating Tamara Korpatsch 6-3 6-2 in round one, but this is where her tournament may unfortunately end as she prepares to take on Coco Gauff.
The American warmed up for the Australian Open by winning the ASB Classic without dropping a set and she has kept that form going in Melbourne, having won her opener against Katerina Siniakova 6-1 6-4.
However, Gauff may not have everything her own way against the 2021 US Open champion and this one looks like it will go the distance, with the American having just enough to come out on top.
