The action on the polytrack at Lingfield runs from 12:45 to 15:45 on Wednesday, and we have two selections from their seven-race card.

Selections

  • Lingfield 13:15 – Free Solo @ 11/8
  • Lingfield 14:45 – Man On A Mission @ 6/4

Tip 1

FREE SOLO (11/8) has been a runner to watch in recent months and, after missing out on a hat-trick when coming home a three-quarter-length second to Poetic Force on Saturday, makes a speedy return as connections look to maximise his form.

The six-year-old won on his second start at Leopardstown in July 2019 and after regularly going close in his next 21 outings, finally got over the line at this venue less than three weeks ago on December 22.

He backed that up next time out on January 2 and is set for another quick turnaround on Wednesday.

Free Solo looks well-suited to the repeat 7f trip and Jamie Osbourne seems to have found the right combination when it comes to getting the best out of this son of Showcasing.

With daughter Saffie again in the plate, the ingredients are there for another strong challenge.

Competition is expected to come from recent Southwell winner Politics (11/4), who moves up to 7f for the first time, while Simon Dow’s Hul Al Bah Loo (5/1) is getting closer to breaking his maiden.

However, form favours Free Solo and it is tough to look past him in the 13:15.

Tip 2

Jim Crowley’s decision to head to Lingfield for just one ride aboard Charlie Hills’ Rabaah in the 13:45 is sure to attract plenty of punters but a look down the card shows there could be more of a certainty an hour later.

MAN ON A MISSION (6/4) has won his last two starts, scoring at Wolverhampton on his penultimate outing on December 30, before backing it up here on January 2.

That is one of three career wins the four-year-old has achieved at Lingfield, having won back in April as well as at the end of November, and he seems well set at Wednesday’s 5f trip.

Connections have retained the services of jockey Luke Morris, who has been on board for all of those Lingfield successes and as of Tuesday lunchtime, has a 16 per cent strike rate over the last fortnight.

Man On A Mission looks well placed here but will face decent competition from Conrad Allen’s Mick’s Spirit (7/2), who was second over this course and distance when last seen on December 12.

He is also a three-time track and trip winner and appears due to a victory but that might have to wait for his next run.

Lilkian (10/3) and Storm Melody (14/1) are also worth considering but Man On A Mission can do nothing wrong at the moment and it will take a mighty performance to overhaul him.
