There are four UK and Irish race meetings on Wednesday, with all-weather action dominating as the National Hunt meeting at Hereford is joined by synthetic racing from Newcastle, Dundalk and Kempton.
Amongst our midweek fancies is Fazayte for trainer Ryan Potter in the Hereford opener, as he looks to continue his excellent recent form.
- Hereford 1.00 – Fazayte @ 11/4
- Newcastle 2.20 – Pocket The Packet 11/10
- Kempton 6.30 – Swiss Pride @ 2/1
In-form FAZAYTE (11/4) can collect the prize in the opening Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (1.00) at Hereford this afternoon for Ryan Potter and Caoilin Quinn.
Imported from France in 2020, the selection went 0-9 when trained by Tom Symonds initially in the UK but has found his feet since switching to this handler.
He got on the scoresheet at Stratford (2m2½f, good) in October and was only narrowly denied at this venue (2m5½f, good to soft) from 5lb soon after.
At the start of December he scored under today’s rider in a handicap chase at Market Rasen and he was only held off in second by progressive rival back there over hurdles on Boxing Day.
He gets to line up here from the same mark of 99, leaving him officially 4lb well-in and, in his current mood, he’s the one to beat with Quinn back in the plate.
George Boughey and Kevin Stott have enjoyed a stellar winter to date on the all-weather circuit and they can get on the scoresheet at Newcastle with POCKET THE PACKET (11/10) this afternoon.
The 3YO gelded son of Mayson has four wins in six starts since October. The first two of those came over course and distance before he found 7f a stretch here in November.
He regained the winning thread with a tidy double at Lingfield thereafter and his mid-December trip to Southwell is probably best forgiven, as the race didn’t go to plan and he possibly didn’t handle the Nottinghamshire layout.
He’s 3lb lower for this assignment back over a C&D at which he has excelled and can quickly get back on track as he bids to justify his position on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for today’s racing action.
Roger Teal’s SWISS PRIDE (2/1) knows how to win races and this former C&D scorer is fancied to land the ninth victory of his career on his return to Kempton this evening.
He’s got a consistent profile on the all-weather, with 16 placed efforts alongside eight wins in 41 career starts.
He twice finished second at Lingfield over 6f in December, with a next-time-out winner behind in third on the latest of those visits just before Christmas, as the winner Porfin proved much too good on the day having threatened on more than one occasion of late.
Swiss Pride runs off an unchanged mark of 72 now and looks nicely positioned for a big run on his first visit here in 12 months.
