Manchester United are hoping to make the perfect start to 2023 as they welcome struggling Bournemouth to Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.
Erik ten Hag’s men sealed a hard-fought 1-0 win at Wolves on Saturday thanks to a goal from super-sub Marcus Rashford – who was dropped to the bench for oversleeping and being late to a team meeting.
That win and other results over the New Year period mean the Red Devils lie fourth in the table, having leapfrogged Spurs.
Bournemouth’s form has been poor of late and they were beaten again last time out, 2-0 by Crystal Palace with manager Gary O’Neil strongly criticising his team.
They have now lost six of their last seven games in the top-flight.

Rashford will be hoping his performance from the bench will convince coach Ten Hag to restore him to the starting XI. He replaced youngster Alejandro Garnacho at half-time and that might be the change the Dutchman opts for.
Argentinian centre-back Lisandro Martinez could be in contention after completing a week’s training following his return from World Cup success. meaning Luke Shaw could be shifted back over to his favoured left-back position.
Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are pushing for starts, while Jadon Sancho and Scott McTominay are doubts due to injuries.
The Cherries are set to be without midfielder Phil Billing who was withdrawn in the first half of their loss to Palace.
