A London derby marks the return of the Premier League at 12:30 on Boxing Day with Brentford set to host Tottenham at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Bees currently lie 10th in the table after what has been yet another good season and boss Thomas Frank has penned a fresh contract to the summer of 2027 to add to the feelgood factor.

They face a Tottenham team who are still fourth despite losing three of their last five top flight games.

Harry Kane will be hoping to banish the pain of his World Cup penalty miss in west London as Spurs seek three points to keep up with Newcastle in third.

Team news

Brentford are still going to be without defender Kristoffer Ajer and full-back Aaron Hickey who have failed to recover from their injury issues during the break for the World Cup.

Ajer is suffering with a knee injury, while Hickey has ankle ligament damage. However, Pontus Jansson is set to return to action following his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Tottenham are expected to hand a league debut to backup keeper Fraser Forster with Hugo Lloris not ready for action following his exploits with France in the World Cup final.

Argentina defender Cristian Romero is also absent but Ivan Perisic, who played for Croatia in the third-place play-off, will be available for selection.

Richarlison is sidelined with a hamstring injury he picked up in Qatar while playing for Brazil. Meanwhile, midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur sits the game out after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season prior to the World Cup.

Latest Brentford vs Tottenham Betfred Odds

Draw @ 13/5

This is a tough game for Tottenham to return to, especially with the number of key players missing from their squad.

The break maybe came at the right time for them following some indifferent form with four losses in eight games.

Spurs in general have looked okay under Antonio Conte this season and they have found the net with regularity. It is their defence that has looked leaky after letting 11 goals go past them in their last five Premier League games.

Brentford have amassed 19 points from 15 games as they sit 10th in the table.

They have drawn seven games this season, which is the most in the Premier League and are notoriously hard to beat.

Spurs might be caught cold by Brentford given their absentees but the firepower up front means they should get something in west London.

Ivan Toney and Harry Kane to score anytime #PickYourPunt @ 11/4

Both teams have got strikers who are very bankable options to score and they will be hoping to mark their return to the top flight with goals.

Toney may have a point to prove after being left out of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad and he has scored 10 times this season.

That record is only bettered by Kane and Erling Haaland, so goals are to be expected in this contest.

Kane scored in his last two World Cup games, as well as his last two Premier League games, while Toney bagged a brace at Manchester City in his previous match.
