The Christmas Hurdle – Kempton Park, Boxing Day, 1.55pm
The Christmas Hurdle – yet another tremendous Festive highlight with an impressive list of former winners.
Try a few of these on for size. Dawn Run. Lanzarote. Faugheen. Binocular. Some of the greats have tasted success in Sudbury-on-Thames on Boxing Day, and one with arguably as much talent or even more arrives here to be crowned king of all he surveys.
Constitution Hill is just 5, rising 6 of course on New Year’s Day, the official birthday of all thoroughbreds. On increasing evidence he’s a bit of a freak, in a very good way.
He’s beating good horses by relative miles, without coming under any serious pressure. Jonbon – annihilated in last season’s Supreme Novices’. Epatante, who re-opposes today – thrashed pointless in this season’s Fighting Fifth.
‘Constitution’ is already odds-on for the Champion Hurdle in March, and if he’s beaten here (circa 1/7 in the market!) it will be a sensation. Might be one just to watch and savour.
In 20 years we might just be saying he was one of the very, very best we’d ever seen. Or in three months, even ..
Selection – Constitution Hill to win. It might be daylight in second, but hey, this is sport, it’s a horse race, so we all know that anything can happen.
Let’s hope it’s a cracker, and another stepping stone towards the very top in his sport.
