There is more Big Bash League action taking place on Christmas Eve as the Hobart Hurricanes play host to the Melbourne Renegades, the latter winning all three of their games so far this season.

The Renegades took care of Brisbane Heat in the first match, winning by 22 runs but the two wins after have both been by four wickets.

They are seeking to win their first Big Bash title for four years when they defeated city rivals Melbourne Stars in 2019.

Hobart meanwhile have begun their campaign with a win and two losses, the win coming against last year’s winners Perth Scorchers by eight runs.

  • Melbourne Renegades to win @ 6/5
  • Nic Maddinson to be the Renegades’ top run scorer @ 10/3

Team news

The Renegades have won three from three using the same IX each time and it is unlikely that coach David Saker will want to change things around.

The opening duo of Nic Maddinson and Sam Harper have been highly effective so far while their bowling attack has also impressed in the three games.

However, Jack Prestwidge and Martin Guptill are hoping to force their way into the side at some point.

For the Hurricanes, they have added 21-year-old all-rounder Mitch Owen to their squad for the Christmas Eve contest.

Chris Tremain is also hoping to make his debut for the Tasmania side.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades Odds

Melbourne Renegades to win @ 6/5

So far the Renegades have been, along with the Adelaide Strikers, the best team in the league with the pair picking up three wins from three.

No other side has even managed to get a brace of wins so far so they are certainly laying down a strong marker for the competition ahead.

They have looked particularly comfortable in their last two wins against Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat, winning both by a four-wicket margin.

So far, they have impressed with the bat and will be looking to their top-order players to try and earn the victory.

Hobart have been inconsistent this season despite the added tutelage of the legendary Australia batter Ricky Ponting.

They have won six of the last seven matches against the Renegades but the current form of the Melbourne side means they should be too strong, particularly with their batting firepower.

Nic Maddinson to be the Renegades top run scorer @ 10/3

Maddison has been the real star of the show for the Renegades this season with a total of 128 runs in three innings – a record bettered only by the strikers’ man Matt Short.

He scored a fantastic 87 in their win against Brisbane and has captained the side excellently so far.

The left-hander has had a brilliant career in limited-overs cricket across a multitude of tournaments and that experience means he could be the big difference-maker going into this game.
