Watford host Millwall on Boxing Day with both clubs very much in the play-off race. We take a look at the odds in some of the most popular betting markets on Betfred ahead of the lunchtime kick-off…
The hosts are currently sitting in fourth place in the Championship and have a four game unbeaten streak on the line. One thing stands out very clearly in their recent results and that is the lack of both teams scoring in their games. Only once in their past nine games has BTTS come in and only once in their past nine has Over 2.5 Goals been a winner.
Over 2.5 Goals is therefore unsurprisingly odds against although the 5/4 on offer isn’t as long as recent statistics may suggest. BTTS is also odds-on at 10/11.
Millwall haven’t been involved in many high-scoring thrillers either although BTTS and Over 2.5 has come in for two of their previous three league games. Before that though it was 0-0, 0-0 and a 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield, so don’t expect many goals at Vicarage Road on Boxing Day.
Both sides have been involved in goalless draws in recent times and the 15/2 on offer for another 0-0 in the Correct Score market must be tempting. Traditionally the early kick-offs on Boxing Day aren’t the most intense so this would be my top selection here.
Both the 1-0 win for Watford and the 1-1 are joint favourites in that market at 11/2 with the away 0-1 priced up at 9/1.
In the top-line Match Result market we find the Hornets just about odds-on at 19/20 with the draw a very nice 21/10. Millwall are out there at 13/5 to go away from the extremes of the Underground network with all three points.
Joao Pedro was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer but he stayed in the Championship and has already scored eight times for his club. We go 2/1 that he scores anytime here and 5/1 that he scores first or last.
