PDC World Darts Day 8 Tips

We’re into the 2nd Round games at Ally Pally, which means we have a much better idea of the form of the players taking part. Ok, let’s get stuck into our four tips…

Gary Anderson -1.5 hcp – 8/11

Two-time World Champion Gary Anderson (1/3) takes on Latvian Madars Razma (23/10) in the first game of the evening and is massively fancied to progress.

The 34-year-old beat India’s Prakash Jiwa in the first round, with an 89 average and  just one 180. He will have to raise his game several levels here to compete with the ‘Flying Scotsman’.

51-year-old Anderson is a long way from his best, when he won this tournament two years on the spin, back in 2015/16 but tends to save his best for the Ally Pally stage.

Anderson lost to the eventual champion in the last two years, losing to Peter Wright in the semis last year and Gerwyn Price in the final, back in 2021.

The Scot actually beat Razma 3-1 in this very round two years ago and I think we may see a similar scoreline on Thursday night.

Jim Williams Most 180’s – 5/6

Next up, we have a battle of the JW’s, as England’s James Wade (2/5) takes on Welshman Jim Williams (19/10), in what looks an intriguing match.

Williams came through a titanic tussle with Poland’s Sebastien Bialecki, which went to a final set decider. The 38-year-old came from 2-1 down and showed his power in the final two legs.

Wade had struggled here in recent years but turned back the years last season, before losing to Michael Smith in the semi-finals.

‘The Machine’ has been in decent nick in recent months, winning a Players Championship  and reaching the semis in the World Series Finals and I think he will have too much for Williams.

However, I’ll be siding with Williams in the most 180’s market. In this tournament last year, Wade didn’t hit a single maximum until the quarter finals, whereas Williams hit four in his opening tie.

Luke Humphries 3-0 – 6/4

I’m looking forward to seeing ‘Cool Hand’ Luke Humphries (1/5) get his tournament underway against Germany’s Florian Hempel (7/2).

The 27-year-old is one of the rising stars on tour and is a huge power scorer, regularly averaging over 100+. A former World Youth Champion, Humphries had his breakthrough year on tour in 2022, winning six minor tour titles.

He’ll now be looking to progress past the quarter finals for the first time , having lost three times in the last four years at that very stage. To do so, first he will need to beat Hempel.

The 32-year-old pulled off a shock 3-2 win over Keegan Brown in the first round, with an 88 average and threw seven 180’s.

This could be a 180 fest but I firmly expect Humphries to win this one comfortably and I don’t think he will drop a set.

Van der Voort/Menzies o7.5 180’s – 10/11

The last match of the evening features the popular Dutchman Vincent van der Voort (5/6) take on Scot Cameron Menzies (20/21).

Vincent has been in poor form of late, losing five of his last six matches. This could be a real banana skin against Fallon Sherrock’s other half.

The 47-year old hasn’t been past the fourth round since 2015 and could be on a career decline. I quite like Menzies to turn him over here.

I have gone for total 180’s to be over 7.5 in this five setter – Menzies hit four in his opener over Diogo Portela and van der Voort can be a 180 machine if he gets going too.
