It’s the most wonderful time of the year! England have been knocked out of the World Cup, Christmas is imminent, so what better way to spend your evenings that with a glass or two of something and the Darts from the Ally Pally. Here are our picks from day 1!

Ben Robb +1.5 Handicap – 8/13

New Zealander Ben Robb takes on Northern Ireland’s Mickey Mansell in the opening round and the ‘Clonoe Cyclone’ is an opening 8/13 favourite for this one, with Robb out at 13/10.

I get the feeling that these two’s careers are on different trajectories right now, with 49-year-old Mansell struggling with injuries over the last 12 months or so.

34-year-old ‘Big Rig’ is improving and has beaten the likes of Simon Whitlock fairly recently, as well as respectable losses to Gerwyn Price and Daryl Gurney.

I quite liked the look of Robb on the outright but have opted for the safer option of the 1.5 set handicap start.

Keane Barry -2.5 Handicap – 4/6

Youngster Keane Barry has been one of the most talked about names in the world of darts recently. The 20-year-old has won several youth titles and qualified for his main tour card in 2021/22.

The Irishman has improved year on year in the World Champs losing 3-0, 3-1 and then 3-2 last year but this year faces a much more beatable opponent.

South African Grant Sampson shocked Devon Petersen to win the African qualifiers spot but this should be a step too far for him and I expect Barry to win comfortably.

Nathan Rafferty Most 180’s – 8/11

The tie of the night is between the improving Northern Irishman Nathan Rafferty and Netherland’s Jermaine Wattimena.

This one could go either way and the Dutchman is a 8/15 favourite to Rafferty’s 6/4. Wattimena has reached the third round at the Ally Pally twice so definitely has the pedigree to win this one

One area that Rafferty should outscore him with is 180’s. The 22-year-old has 301 on tour this year, compared to Wattimena’s 180.
