It’s still up in the air whether this first test will go ahead on time/at all but we’ve previewed the historic first test tour to Pakistan for 17 years and provided you with our best bets.

Pakistan vs England 1st Test Tips

By the time this article is fully written and published, we will probably know whether this match in Rawalpindi is happening as scheduled on Thursday morning, whether it will be Friday or completely postponed. The problem has been put down to a virus passing through the tourists camp, with 13-14 members of the tourist party struck down, including half the playing squad.

Assuming the match does go ahead it will be a momentous occasion for the Pakistan Cricket Board, with a first home test series for 17 years.

Team news:

Probable Pakistan XI – Babar Azam (c), Muhammad Rizwan (wk), Abdullah Shafiq, Imam-ul-Haq, Azhar Ali, Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed

It is obviously difficult to predict the likely line up due to the virus but England put the following team out on social media, stating that Liam Livingstone would be making his test debut.

England XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Ben Foakes (wk), Liam Livingstone, Jack Leach, Ollie Robinson, James Anderson

Latest Pakistan vs England Odds

Pakistan to win – 6/5

Ben Stokes’s men have had a stunning test summer but this may be a series too far. Not only has a bug ripped through the camp but England don’t have a good record here, winning just once in their last 12 tests in Pakistan.

Pakistan like playing in Rawalpindi, winning two and drawing one of their last three tests here.

Pakistan to have a 50+ opening partnership (1st inns) – 5/2

Unlike the white ball side, Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan don’t open the batting and come in further down the line up.

Opening duties instead fall to Abdullah Shafiq and Imam-ul-Haq and while they have only the one 50+ partnership in the last five tests, they are both classy batters and this England side look short of some genuine pace, with the loss of Mark Wood.

Imam-ul-Haq top Pak batter – 7/2

Ul-Haq has been superb in 2022. The 26-year-old left hander is averaging over 54 in the calendar year and scored 157 and 111* against Australia on this very ground, back in March.
