Qualification isn’t yet assured for the Netherlands but if they can avoid defeat at the hands of the Qatari’s on Tuesday afternoon, they will advance to the Round of 16. As for the host nation, they will be looking for a positive end to what has been a disappointing campaign. We take a look at the key betting markets heading into this game using the latest odds available from Betfred…

It would be a pretty big shock if the Dutch didn’t win and move forward as Group A winners but on a personal level – I don’t think they’ve been all that impressive.

Star man Memphis Depay is still gradually working his way back to fitness but in the 1-1 draw with Ecuador last time out, they managed only two shots all game with one hitting the target. Now granted, they did score from that one opportunity but you would expect more from a side with a history of attacking talent.

Looking at the numbers, the Dutch have only had four attempts on target through their first two games here in Qatar and have scored three times. A 75% conversion rate isn’t too shabby but you can’t expect those numbers to continue long-term. They need to be more creative and less pragmatic – certainly against the better teams they look likely to meet down the road.

We’ve added plenty of new player prop bets that are available around 24-48 hours before kick-off including tackles, assists and Shots on Target. You can check out all our latest prices for this one via the Latest Netherlands vs Qatar Odds button below.

As for Qatar, I don’t think many expected they would be good enough to qualify from their group but they’ve probably been even more substandard than we expected going in. They hardly laid a glove on Ecuador who were home and hosed in the first half and whilst they did score and for about ten minutes gave Senegal a fright, they couldn’t keep up the pressure.

However, having said all that, I still don’t think Louis van Gaal’s men are any good so the 6/1 for the draw I think is a reasonable bet. I’m not sure I’d be as bold to predict the 14/1 for the Qatari win but I prefer the draw at that price to the 1/5 available to back the European side. There is some value here for me and whilst I’m not a scoreline guy betting wise, 1-1 at 12/1 seems like something to look at.

World Cup Betting Odds

Memphis Depay is odds-on to score anytime coming in at 4/6 and that is just too short. The fact three Dutch players are odds-on with another three Even money plays shows just how out of step I am with the markets in believing the Netherlands are any good.

BTTS is 6/5 and if you are of the belief the Dutch will run up the score, you’d be in lockstep with the traders and the market in general as they are 5/6 to score Over 2.5 themselves with 9/4 for Over 3.5.
