QIPCO Champions Day
Champion Long Distance Cup, Group Two, 2m, 1.25 Saturday
An absolutely mouth-watering and fascinating renewal. We’ve got the St Leger winner Eldar Eldarov. Super stayer Trueshan. Plus – Aidan O’Brien’s sensational Irish ‘Ces’ victor Waterville. What a showdown!
Trueshan has taken this for the last two years, but looked a shade wobbly by his immaculately high standards last time at Donny. He’s got his ground – loves a little bit of cut – but is he quite at his very best right now?
‘Eldar’ won the Queens Vase at the track before tasting Leger glory. Tries 2m for the first time, and it’s likely to suit.
Aidan’s Waterville came from another county to win the prestigious long-distance handicap at the Curragh, and though he’s a ton to find on official figures, the master of Ballydoyle (pictured above) wouldn’t be here if he thought it was a forlorn hope.
I really can’t wait to enjoy this one, as on a stellar day this contest is still right up there with the rest in terms of intrigue.
I’m hoping Classic form holds sway and our Leger winner can add another big prize to his CV.
To sum up – Eldar Eldarov, to win.
