Managerless Hull City have slipped dangerously close to the Championship relegation zone over recent weeks and there could be more misery for the Tigers when Wigan Athletic visit the MKM Stadium on Wednesday.

Hull have lost five Championship matches on the spin, failing to score in the last four, and with Wigan trending in the opposite direction, a win to nil for the visitors at 7/2 looks more than tempting.

Hull vs Wigan Tips

Wigan to win to nil – 7/2

Wigan to win with a -1 handicap – 5/1

It was a miserable September for Hull, as they lost all four of their matches during the month and failed to score a single goal, a sequence that has seen them fall from play-off contention to just a point above the relegation zone.

That poor run of form also led to the Tigers parting ways with manager Shota Arveladze last week, but interim boss Andy Dawson could not turn the tide during his first match in charge, which ended in a 2-0 home defeat to Luton Town on Friday.

Dawson will seemingly remain in charge for the visit of an improving Wigan side who could end the night in the top six.

The Latics have won three of their last four and are 15/8 to leave Humberside with all three points, while Hull are 8/5 to return to winning ways and the draw is 23/10.

Team news:

Hull’s recent run of poor form has not been helped by a growing injury list, with forwards Allahyar Sayyadmanesh and Benjamin Tetteh not expected to return for another few weeks from their respective hamstring issues.

Defender Brandon Fleming also remains sidelined with a leg problem, while a knee ligament injury has ended winger Vaughn Covil’s season.

Wigan have no fresh injury concerns to contend with, although winger Gwion Edwards (Achilles) and midfielder Jordan Cousins (quad) are not expected to return to action until later this month.

Football Betting Odds

Wigan to win to nil – 7/2

Hull have lost each of their last four matches to nil without scoring, with the Tigers last goal coming in their 3-2 victory over Coventry at the end of August.

That sequence includes three home defeats against Sheffield United, Stoke and most recently Luton, where interim boss Dawson failed to get a new manager bounce following the sacking of Arveladze.

In truth, Hull’s form is dreadful at the moment and it is hard to see the rot stopping against a Wigan outfit that boast the best away record in the Championship, as they are unbeaten in their five games on the road this season, winning each of the last four.

The Latics kept a clean sheet in their most recent away win at Rotherham and they have only conceded three times on the road this season, which makes the away win to nil on Wednesday an intriguing option at 7/2.

Wigan to win with a -1 handicap – 5/1

This should be nothing more than a routine victory on the road for Wigan, who have scored two goals in each of their last three away fixtures, including when claiming a 2-0 victory at Rotherham.

By contrast, not only have Hull lost and failed to score in each of their last three home fixtures, they have been beaten by at least a two-goal margin in all of those games.

This further highlights why Wigan represent good value at 5/1 to win this match with a -1 handicap.

The Latics were 8-0 winners over Hull back in 2020 and, while a repeat outcome appears a little far-fetched this time around, it could still be a very long evening for the home crowd at the MKM Stadium.
