It’s Thursday night and that only means one thing. It’s Europa League time and some epic journeys to far flung continental Europe. Here we visit beautiful Cyprus for Manchester United’s trip to Omonia Nicosia. We’ve previewed the match and provided you with our two best bets for the occasion.
Omonia Nicosia vs Man Utd Tips
After a demoralising 6-3 stuffing by neighbours Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, Manchester United travel to Cyprus for what is a must-win match in Europa League Group E.
The Red Devils sit level on points with FC Sheriff, who face group leaders Real Sociedad. Omonia Nicosia have lost both their games so far, so United will fancy a comfortable win here to get their season and confidence, under Erik ten Hag, back on track.
Omonia of course are managed by ex-Celtic boss Neil Lennon, who won the Cypriot Cup in his first season in charge and went on to shock Belgian side Gent, to qualify for the Europa League group stages. They have found these games difficult though, scoring just once and conceding five goals over the two matches in Group E
Lennon has no real injury issues and should stick with a similar side as in the 2-1 defeat they played out against Sociedad last time out.
ETH has numerous players out or doubtful, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek, Martin Dubravka as well as knocks to centre-backs Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire. After two goals at the weekend Anthony Martial will surely start from the beginning here, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro.
Man United to win and BTTS – No – 5/6
United were completely blown away in the first half at the Etihad and displayed some worrying defensive deficiencies. However, this isn’t City they are facing here, it’s Omonia Nicosia and the Red Devils should have way too much quality for them. I can see this being a low scoring win to nil for the Manchester club.
Anthony Martial to score – 9/4
One man who certainly did his own profile no harm on Sunday was Anthony Martial who was subbed on late and scored two goals to make the score in the derby look a little more respectable. Martial looked superb in pre-season before getting injured, but looked sharp on his comeback at the weekend.
Alongside Ronaldo and Anthony Elanga, Martial should have the run of the Nicosia back-line and I expect the 26-year-old Frenchman to get on the mark here. The 9/4 looks on the generous side.
