It’s not only the Champions League taking place over midweek, there is a full slate of EFL games, including all the Championship games live on the red button. The Wednesday evening live match on Sky Sports Main Event is Preston North End vs West Brom Albion and we’ve done a full preview and best bets for the occasion.
Preston vs West Brom Tips
Wednesday night sees a clash between two teams under-achieving in the Championship thus far this season. Preston have become notorious for their lack of goals(3 in total) and 0-0 draws (six in total in 11 games), which sees them sat down in 14th spot. Several North End fans I know have started to mutter about the style of football Ryan Lowe’s team are playing this year and while it’s great to see they are difficult to score against, it’s really not very attractive fayre.
West Brom are also draw specialists, with seven of their games ending even. Just one win from eleven games is a disastrous result for manager Steve Bruce, given the depth of talent available to him. The pressure continues to rise in the black country and the Baggies badly need three points here to start moving up the Championship table.
Centre back Andrew Hughes is a doubt and will join Mikey O’Neill on the injured list for Ryan Lowe’s men. Preston may be tempted to make several changes in an attempt to secure their first win in five.
Semi Ajayi and Daryl Dike continue to miss out for West Brom, while Jayson Molumby could be recalled in the place of Tom Rogic.
Match Result – Draw – 9/4
What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Something has to break here. Preston don’t score or concede goals. West Brom, on the other hand, are the exact opposite, netting and conceding 17 goals at each end.
I was back and forth between another 0-0 draw and BTTS and I thought I’d take the easy way out. These two sides have drawn 14 of their 22 combined games and I’m expecting another one here. Whether that will be enough to save Bruce’s job is another thing altogether.
#PickYourPunt: Darnell Furlong and Jayson Molumby to be carded – 8/1
My second selection is centred around two Baggies players to be carded. Furlong and Molumby rank first and third in fouls for West Brom and have each picked up three cautions so far this season. This follows on from last year where Molumby accumulated nine bookings and Furlong had seven. In such a high pressure game, where Bruce will clearly have his men fired up, I can see some more cards being dished out.
Referee Josh Smith ranks joint 3rd in the Championship for yellows at 4.71 pg so this will help our cause no end. The two combined pay 8/1 using our #PickYourPunt feature.
