The Champions League returns on Tuesday and we’ve got a massive domestic dust up on BT Sport. Liverpool put their Premier League worries to one side and host a Rangers side, who badly need to pick up some points in Group A. We’ve previewed this one and have our two best bets for your attention.

Liverpool vs Rangers Tips

Dare I say it? Jürgen Klopp finds himself under serious pressure for the first time in his Liverpool managerial career. After establishing the Reds as one of the premier teams in English and European football, Klopp is undergoing somewhat of a sticky patch. Liverpool are way down in 9th and a whopping 11 points behind Arsenal at the top of the table. Any ideas of another title charge appear to have vanished, as the Manchester City juggernaut rolls on.

Klopp’s woes were deepened on Saturday as an impressive Brighton and in particular Leandro Trossard, smashed in three goals at Anfield. The fact that the Reds were able to respond and drag themselves back into a winning position from two goals down, says something about the spirit still within the squad but the German will be deeply worried about Liverpool’s defence and form in general. One win in the last four in all competitions is simply not good enough for a side of Liverpool’s stature. Rangers at home represents an opportunity to put that quickly right.

Team news:

One reason Klopp may point to for Liverpool’s erratic form is an extensive injury list featuring no less than seven senior players. The likes of Diogo Jota have recovered from injury and he will be pushing for a starting spot along with the misfiring Darwin Nunez.

Rangers also have their own injury issues with Kemar Roofe, Tom Lawrence and John Souttar amongst those unavailable. Centre back James Sands is also missing this one, due to his suspension following a red card, in Rangers 3-0 loss at home to Napoli.

Football Odds

Liverpool to win to nil – 10/11

One look at Liverpool’s recent results will tell you they are struggling to defend and keep clean sheets. However, I’m taking them to buck that trend on Tuesday night against Rangers. The Scottish side were superb in Europe last season, in a run right to the Europa League final but they have struggled this year against the big boys.

In their two games to date, the Gers have conceded seven goals and scored none. I can’t see that changing again here and am taking Klopp’s men to win(heavily) to nil.

#PickYourPunt: John Lundstram and Connor Goldson to be carded – 17/2

My 2nd selection is based around a couple of Glasgow players to be carded.

John Lundstram has only picked up two yellows this term but did get a straight red against Hibs back in August. The 28-year-old Englishman picked up a reputation in his time at Sheffield United as a go-to-guy for bookings but has seemingly calmed it down a touch at Rangers. However, in a game where they will be doing all the running/chasing, I’m expecting Lundstram to revert to type and find himself in the referee’s little black book once again.

Right centre-back Connor Goldson has four yellows already this season, one every other game. Another Englishman, Goldson picked up three cautions in Europe last year on Rangers magnificent Europa League campaign and I can see him being in trouble tonight against Luis Diaz and Mo Salah.

The two combined pays 17/2 using Betfred’s #PickYourPunt feature.
