Phil Salt says he’s not worried about losing his place in the England side for the upcoming T20 World Cup and is only focused on Sunday’s series decider against Pakistan (England 4/6, Pakistan 6/5 – Match Betting).

Salt was the star in Friday’s sixth T20 against Paskistan as he struck an unbeaten 88 off 41 balls to help England level the seven-match series at 3-3 with an eight-wicket win.

The 26-year-old will now hope to play his part in Sunday’s finale in Lahore as England look to claim a 4-3 series victory before they take on Australia in three more World Cup warm-up matches between October 9-14.

Salt reckons his performance in the sixth T20 was “definitely” his best-ever innings in that format as he blasted 13 fours and three sixes, while his 19-ball half-century was the third fastest by an Englishman in a T20 international.

However, with white-ball captain Jos Buttler, who has been out with a calf injury, expected to be fit for the World Cup (England – 4/1 T20 World Cup Outright) when England begin their campaign on October 17, Salt could lose his place in the line-up.

He is not concerned about that at the moment, though, and understands there will always be plenty of competition for places in an England side.

Salt, who is 18/5 to be top England runscorer on Sunday, said: “You need competition, the best sides in the world have competition and you can’t get away from that, it’s the same in any sport.

“Everyone is trying to put their best foot forwards and show the coaching team and the team-mates how good they are. I’m not looking too far into the future, I’m just focused on the next game.”

England and Pakistan have played out a highly-competitive series so far, which has seen the tourists lead 1-0 and 2-1 before the hosts responded to level at 2-2 and then edge ahead 3-2 overall before Friday’s clash.

Stand-in skipper Moeen Ali has been pleased with the way things have gone so far and is hoping for a positive finish for England on Sunday.

He said: “It’s great for the series that it is 3-3, I think it’s been a brilliant series so far. We’re looking for an exciting game in the last one.”
