The Premier League returns after a long international break and this is the big stand-out tie of the weekend. The Manchester Derby looks like an intriguing affair with both sides in the top six and city bragging rights on the line. We’ve previewed this one and provided two suggested bets for this massive clash.
Manchester City vs Manchester United Tips
This might be the closest these two teams have been in recent derbies. After a shocking start Erik ten Hag appears to be stamping his philosophy on this group of United players and four straight wins have got the Red Devils faithful buzzing.
Some expensive, yet impressive summer spending, has bolstered a weak looking squad, particularly down the spine and wins over Arsenal and Liverpool show that United aren’t a team to take lightly this year.
The Manchester City juggernaut just rolls on. Four titles in five years and six in the last ten, display a domestic dominance that shows no sign of abating. Pep Guardiola moved to strengthen the one remaining weak spot in his side in the summer, bringing in Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
The big Norwegian phenom has quelled all fears about him taking time to settle in one of the world’s hardest leagues and has rattled in 11 goals in just seven games in the Premier League to date. Here he comes up against a man who managed to keep him quiet in a recent Dortmund vs Ajax game, Lisandro Martinez, but with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne providing the supply, he may find a repeat slightly troublesome.
John Stones joins his international team mate Kalvin Phillips on the injury list after suffering a muscle strain on England Duty. Aymeric Laporte should be back in contention for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Ten Hag has numerous players either out or struggling with injury. Amongst them are Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial, which would suggest a start for Cristiano Ronaldo. Harry Maguire is also out after picking up a knock with England but it’s unlikely he would have started anyway.
Anthony 1+ Shot on target – Evens
The 22-year-old Brazilian had a debut to remember in the league for United, scoring once, letting off three shots with two on target. I’m taking him to register another SoT on Sunday and like the market leading price of Evens on offer. Antony scored 12 goals in all comps last year and clearly has an eye for goal.
Man City to win and both teams to score – 6/4
I just can’t see a way that City don’t win this one. They simply have too much firepower, scoring 15 goals more than United this season already and conceding two less. However, the Red Devils have a decent record against City in recent years and have scored in eight of their last nine trips to the Etihad. I think United will score but City will simply overpower them by the final whistle.
