The ongoing international break means Leagues One and Two take centre stage domestically on Saturday, with the pick of the matches coming at Hillsborough where Sheffield Wednesday take on Wycombe Wanderers (Sheff Wed 8/13, Draw 11/4, Wycombe 9/2 – Match Result).
Sheff Wed were among the promotion favourites at the start of the season, but Darren Moore’s side have failed to win their last two League One fixtures on home soil and they head into Saturday’s match sitting fourth in the standings, four points off the automatic promotion positions.
However, with the top two – Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle – facing each other on Sunday and third-placed Portsmouth not in action, the Owls have an opportunity to close the gap at the top, although Moore is expecting a tough game against last season’s beaten play-off finalists.
“We have got a really important game on Saturday,” Moore told reporters. “You’ve not got any god given right to win the game. We have to go and earn it. We will play against a really experienced team and manager.
“It will be a good game on Saturday and we look forward to it.”
That match is one of seven taking place in League One on Saturday, with the only other side currently inside the top six in action being Barnsley, who welcome Charlton Athletic to Oakwell (Barnsley 5/4, Draw 9/4, Charlton 21/10 – Match Result).
The pick of the games in League Two undoubtedly comes at Holker Street where second-place Barrow entertain leaders Leyton Orient, who have won eight and lost none of their nine league fixtures to date this term (Barrow 13/8, Draw 21/10, Leyton Orient 7/4 – Match Result).
Elsewhere, struggling Hartlepool United parted ways with manager Paul Hartley earlier this week, with interim boss Keith Curle set to take charge for the first time for the home clash with Gillingham (Hartlepool 7/4, Draw 21/10, Gillingham 13/8 – Match Result).
Colchester United, who are also on the hunt for a new head coach after parting ways with Wayne Brown, welcome bottom of the table Rochdale to the JobServe Community Stadium (Colchester 6/5, Draw 23/10, Rochdale 9/4 – Match Result).
