While the international break has diluted the football calendar, there is a mammoth weekend of boxing action on the cards.
Joe Joyce’s clash with Joseph Parker may be hogging the limelight as the duo chase a world title fight in 2023, but there is plenty of other world-class action to come from elsewhere.
One of boxing’s brightest young stars returns to the ring on Friday as American Shakur Stevenson defends his WBC, WBO and Ring Magazine junior lightweight titles against Robson Conceicao (Stevenson 1/14, Draw 33/1, Conceicao 17/2 – bout winner).
Stevenson (7/4 – to win by KO, TKO or disqualification) beat Oscar Valdez in April to win the WBC and Ring Magazine straps, and he could cement his name in the pound-for-pound list with a victory at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.
Conceicao lost to Valdez in 2021 and Stevenson has vowed to punish his rival as he tries to make another huge statement.
On the undercard, Keyshawn Davis faces Omar Tienda at lightweight, while Jahi Tucker will tackle Jose Luis Sanchez.
On Saturday, an all-British clash is on the cards as Maxi Hughes takes on Kid Galahad in Nottingham (Hughes 7/4, Draw 16/1, Galahad 1/2 – bout winner).
Leigh Wood and Mauricio Lara were due to headline the card, but the former was forced to withdraw with an injury.
Galahad returns to the ring for the first time since Kiko Martinez knocked him out in November, while Hughes is looking to extend his unbeaten run to seven fights as he chases further world title fights.
On the undercard, Hannak Rankin will defend her WBA women’s super-welterweight title against Terri Harper (Ranking 11/4, Draw 14/1, Harper 1/3 – bout winner).
