No celebratory wine gums just yet. Chiefs/Chargers came up 2.5 pts light for me in the weekend’s opener, but it was an exciting affair that Mahomes and company just about pulled off. LA will take more of these contests than they lose, methinks, going forward.

Cracking programme of matches to come to complete Week 2 over Sunday, and in the early hours of Mon, and Tues. Among the raft of 6pm UK kick-offs is the Dolphins @ Ravens clash at M&T Bank. Home QB Lamar Jackson (below) is always worth a look, and on his day he’s bang up there with the best of them.

Contract difficulties muddy the waters a little at present but he’s mustard, and wants rewarding accordingly.

The visiting Miami Dolphins found new signing Tyreek Hill eight times last week for 94 total yards. Their QB Tua Tagovailoa however is attracting a fair bit of scrutiny. Real deal, or keeping the spot warm for someone else? The position does attract THE most forensic scrutiny.

Tua was sacked and harassed for fun last week and I can see the Ravens doing similar on Sunday. I’m expecting Baltimore to come out on top -3.5 on the spread, and fancy a little tickle on total points under 45.5.

Another well worth a second glance at 6pm is the New England Patriots @ Pittsburgh Steelers clash at the Acrisure Stadium, formerly Heinz Field. The ketchup giant no longer has naming rights, but remains a key sponsor.

Two storied franchises here, with Super Bowl histories to be proud of. The Steelers D was magnificent last week against Joe Burrow and company, but TJ Watt was sadly injured.

QB Trubisky was efficient enough as he settles into Roethlisberger’s enormous shoes, and lowering the Bengals’ colours is much more of an achievement nowadays than it used to be.

The Pats were downed by Miami, with precious little offense on show. Steelers take this for me in potentially another relatively low-scoring affair. Steelers, money line, @ 6/5.

Don’t forget there are late kick-off UK-time matches in the early hours of Monday (Bears @ Packers 01.20), and Tuesday (Titans @ Bills 00.15 and Vikings @ Eagles 01.30).

Have a cracking weekend of NFL action and as always, take care.
