It’s been somewhat of a foregone conclusion ever since Foreign Secretary Liz Truss went up against ex-Chancellor Rishi Sunak as the final two in the race to become the next Conservative leader.

Today, as the voting amongst Tory members reaches its deadline ahead of the winner announcement on Monday, Truss is 1/33 at Betfred to replace Boris Johnson as the new leader and therefore Prime Minister.

Sunak, whose campaign has proved much less popular than that put forward by right-winger Truss, has drifted all the way out to 12/1 for the top job.

Many Betfred punters are waiting to cash in on the expected Truss win, with hundreds backing her when she was as big as 5/1.

One of our most notable potential winners is a punter from South Manchester, who bet £2,000 to win £10,000 – so it’s fair to say he must have been fairly confident that she’d triumph!

Betfred is also busy taking odds on who will win the next general election.

We have the big two – Labour and the Conservatives – neck-and-neck at 10/11 the pair to win the most seats, with the Lib Dems, Reform UK and Green Party all at three-figure odds.

However, it’s 4/5 that there will be No Overall Majority, with both parties 11/4 to hit that all-important number of 326 seats.
