A grandma from the Midlands has won £10,000 at Betfred from a FIVE PENCE wager.
Her win is one of the most remarkable in over 50 years of taking bets at Britain’s biggest independent bookie.
The 58-year-old, who works as a bakery assistant, had loose change in her purse when she went past the Betfred shop in Tipton and decided to place a total of 25p on the five Nifty Fifty cash draws on that day.
She didn’t even choose the numbers herself, instead opting for a computer-generated lucky dip.
The numbers were 8, 14, 18, 49 and 50 – and she bet 5p, using the same numbers, on each of the five draws.
She said: “It is absolutely fantastic to win so much from such a tiny stake. It was just loose change in my purse, and thought I’d give it a go.
“I have no idea at all what I’m going to do with the money, but I’ve just come back from a holiday in Cornwall so I might go back there for a few more days because I enjoyed it so much
“I was in a bit of a hurry so just went for the lucky dip, and I’m so glad that I did.
“I’ve been a Betfred customer for five or six years, but I’ve never won anything like this before.”
Betfred shop manager Nick Crompton said: “What a great winner – a real nice lady. She was beaming when she came into the shop to collect her winnings.
“She couldn’t stop smiling. I told her it had brightened up the day for all of us.”
Betfred boss Fred Done added: “As a bakery assistant, she’ll know all about being in the dough!
“Well done to this regular customer who has made company history by winning big with the smallest possible stake.
“It’s an amazing win, and although she’s planning to return to Cornwall she’s kindly going to share some of her winnings with members of her family.”
