After a shock 2-0 win at eventual Premier League champions Manchester City last season, Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira is looking to use that performance as inspiration for Monday night’s showdown with Liverpool (Liverpool 1/4, Draw 5/1, Crystal Palace 14/1 – Match Betting).
Goals from Wilfried Zaha and Conor Gallagher saw the Eagles stun champions City on their home turf at the Etihad Stadium in October last year.
With a tough trip to title contenders Liverpool coming up, Vieira knows his Palace side (5/1 to be relegated) at least have a performance in them to get a positive result from Anfield.
“Against those teams, it is hard to have possession,” he told the club’s official website. “We accept that, and we will have to work well as a team if we want to get something from the game.
“It’s about our organisation, how we can be really disciplined, work well and close those kinds of spaces where they can hurt you. If we manage to do that well, it will be important for us to be brave and to take those chances to score goals.
“Going to Anfield and defending for 90 minutes will be tough. We have to play our game and to try to create chances and score goals.”
James McArthur and James Tomkins both miss out for Palace but Michael Olise is back in training and is in contention to make the squad.
As for hosts Liverpool (10/3 Premier League Outright), who are looking to bounce back after a 2-2 stalemate at Fulham in their opening game which leaves them five points behind City already, they will be without midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
The former Bayern Munich star picked up a hamstring injury against the Cottagers and joins Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the sidelines.
In more positive news for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, midfielder Naby Keita has recovered from illness and should feature on Monday night.
