There are two more matches from the Men’s Hundred to look forward to on Saturday, with a pair of sides in contrasting form due to meet at 14:30 at Old Trafford (Match Winner – Rockets 4/5, Originals EVS).
The Manchester Originals have lost both of their outings so far, crashing by six wickets to Northern Superchargers before going down by 52 runs at London Spirit on Monday.
In contrast, Trent Rockets have beaten both Birmingham Phoenix and the Superchargers in style and have a pair of form batters in Alex Hales (5/2 Rockets Top Run Scorer) and Dawid Malan (11/4), who have scored 101 and 96, respectively, in the competition.
Both will be hoping to at least match the Superchargers’ Adam Lyth as the tournament’s top scorer, while the Rockets will also look for wickets from Daniel Sams (11/4 Rockets Top Wicket Taker), who is averaging a dismissal every 6.67 balls.
In response, the Originals will look for inspiration from skipper Jos Buttler (21/10 Originals Top Run Scorer), who scored a relatively sedate 59 from 41 against the Superchargers, while Phil Salt (16/5) top scored with 36 against the Spirit.
Malan notched 52 as the Rockets won last year’s sole meeting by seven wickets and the England man will be hoping for more of the same.
It’s a similar story at 18:00 as Welsh Fire eye a first win of 2022 against the Birmingham Phoenix, who have a history-maker within their ranks (Match Winner – Phoenix 4/7, Fire 11/8).
Will Smeed (3/1 Phoenix Top Run Scorer) scored The Hundred’s first ever century by smashing 101 off 50 balls in Wednesday’s 53-run win over Southern Brave.
Henry Brookes (4/1 Phoenix Top Wicket Taker) then took 5-25 to respond after their opening loss to the Phoenix.
The Fire went down by nine wickets to the Brave first time out before losing by 39 runs to Oval Invincibles to see them drop to the foot of the standings.
They do at least have last year’s second-highest run-scorer to call upon in Ben Duckett (10/3 Fire Top Run Scorer). However, the Phoenix look better all-round, with the man who beat Duckett, Liam Livingstone (3/1 Phoenix Top Run Scorer), also in their line-up alongside Moeen Ali (11/4).
