Betfred have yet another favourite to become the next Conservative leader and therefore Prime Minister
STOP PRESS – Weds, pm. After another round of balloting, just two candidates are now left to fight it out for the opportunity to become leader of the Conservative party.
It’s now Liz Truss 4/7, Rishi Sunak 11/8 – and it’s for the party membership to decide, during August.
For the first time in the Tory leadership contest, right-winger Liz Truss has emerged as the odds-on favourite to take over from Boris Johnson.
The Foreign Secretary is now (see above) at Betfred, ahead of the crucial MPs vote on Wednesday, when the original group of nine will be whittled down to just two candidates that will go before the party’s membership at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Kemi Badenoch was the latest to be eliminated from the race.
Ukraine’s foreign minister has joined the debate, praising Truss’ “inner steel”, while the Labour Party have been relishing the blue-on-blue attacks by releasing a video sledging the Tory leadership candidates in the first two TV debates.
