Full-back Tyrell Malacia says he cannot wait to work with “tremendous manager” Erik ten Hag at Manchester United (28/1 – Premier League Outright) after he joined from Feyenoord in a deal worth an initial £13million.
United have brought in the Netherlands international on a four-year deal and he becomes the first player to join the club following the appointment of former Ajax boss Ten Hag.
The 22-year-old came up against Ten Hag’s old side in the Dutch top flight and says he is looking forward to his future at Old Trafford.
“It’s an incredible feeling to have joined,” he said. “This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager leading us.
“I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.
Football director John Murtough believes Malacia will fit in well at Old Trafford. He said: “Tyrell is an exciting, dynamic young footballer with excellent experience for his age, including five seasons in the Eredivisie, a European final and full International honours for the Netherlands.
“We look forward to seeing him continue to develop under the guidance of Erik ten Hag and his coaching team in the years ahead.”
Malacia, who made 136 senior appearances for Feyenoord, is set to head out with United on Friday when they travel to Thailand and Australia for their pre-season tour and is expected to be the first of several new arrivals at the club this summer.
Free agent Christian Eriksen is close to agreeing a three-year deal to join United, while talks are ongoing between Red Devils officials and Barcelona about a move for long-term transfer target Frenkie de Jong.
United’s summer friendly schedule begins with a clash against rivals Liverpool (5/2 – Premier League Outright) in Bangkok on July 12 before they take on Australian side Melbourne Victory in Melbourne three days later.
