Liverpool (5/2 Premier League 2022-23) have completed the signing of Aberdeen’s 18-year-old right-back Calvin Ramsay for a fee of just over £4million.

The Scotland Under-21 international’s deal also includes over £2.5million in add-ons while there is also a sell-on clause of 17.5%.

Ramsay made 33 appearances for Aberdeen last season across all competitions and scored one goal.

His performances earned him the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Young Player of the Year award and he had been linked with a move away from Pittodrie for some time.

Leeds United were thought to be interested in his signature but Liverpool have won the race and he will slot straight into the first-team squad under Jurgen Klopp (pictured).

There are no plans to send him out on loan and he is likely to serve as the understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The defender – who has penned a five-year contract at Anfield – said he was thrilled to be joining such a big club and believes he can push for a place in the Reds’ starting XI.

“I’m just buzzing and it’s a dream come true really to be here,” he said.

“It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen, and now to be at one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the world, it’s a massive achievement and I’m looking forward to trying to show the fans what I’ve got.”

Ramsay is Liverpool’s third signing of the summer as they seek to get their business done early in order to try and challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez is the standout capture so far after signing from Benfica for an initial £64million while they have also signed young Fulham attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho.

However, star forward Sadio Mane is likely to depart with Bayern Munich close to a £35million swoop.

Liverpool finished a point behind City in the Premier League last season and will hope to reclaim the crown they last won in 2020.

The Reds face a newly-promoted side on the opening weekend of the season yet again, this time to travelling to Fulham on August 6 for a 1230pm kick off (Match Betting – Fulham 7/1, draw 9/2, Liverpool 2/7).
