Betfred columnists Alan Firkins and Owen McMahon share a couple of tips each for Day Five – the final day – at Royal Ascot

After a 14/1 handicap winner on the opening day, a double on Thursday and another two winners yesterday, it’s fair to say we’ve had a good week on the tipping front.

More of the same today, to end what’s been a brilliant Royal meeting in style?

Our tips come in the Chesham at 2.30, the Platinum Jubilee at 4.20, the Wokingham at 5.00 and finally the Golden Gates at 5.35.

Kindly listen to the ‘who’ and ‘why’ below…

And we hear from Betfred TV’s Matt Hulmes, on the betting movements ahead of Day Five hostilities;

Friday certainly belonged to the punters as four winning favourites and three well-supported second favourites scoring saw to us having a right Royal roasting.

However, with cash in the punters’ pockets, business has been brisk ahead of the final days action. Twenty-seven runners in the G1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes will be a sight to behold. The King’s Stand headed Down Under in no uncertain terms and the market suggests this race will too.

However, it is not the favourite Home Affairs being backed, but the Jamie Spencer-ridden Artorius. He is into 15/2 from 14/1 while Sacred (9/1 from 11/1) and Minzaal (12/1 from 16/1) are a pair of home trained sprinters being supported.

The cavalry charge for the Wokingham has seen plenty of money thrown its away on an array of contenders. The most notable moves are for Fresh (6/1 from 8/1) and Silver Samurai (7/1 from 10/1) while at bigger prices the recent Chelmsford 1-2 of Popmaster (16/1 from 25/1) and Dubai Station (28/1 from 40/1) have been nibbled.

The might of Attheraces’ Hugh Taylor saw Sunningdale’s price crash in the opening Chesham Stakes, from the opening 100/1 into 28/1. Crypto Force (15/2 from 12/1) and Dark Thirty (14/1 from 18/1) have also been nibbled each way against the Aidan O’Brien trained, Ryan Moore ridden hotpot Alfred Munnings.

Henry De Bromhead is more accustomed to Cheltenham Festival winners, but his Irish 1000 Guineas fourth Star Of Aalmal has been backed into 9/2 favouritism (from 8/1) for the Jersey Stakes.

There has been a smattering of support for Solid Stone to give Sir Michael Stoute a twelfth Hardwicke Stakes, but the main story here is the opposition to favourite Hurricane Lane who is out to 5/6 from 4/6.

Godolphin field four in the Golden Gates Stakes and it is last Saturday’s Sandown winner Honiton, who has finished behind a pair of Royal Ascot winners, Secret State and Eldar Eldarov already this season who has been the best backed.

He is into 9/2 from 7/1 while there was a lot support last night for Missed The Cut, into 11/4 from 4/1.

In the meeting’s final race there have been nibbles for the likes of Falcon Eight (9/2 from 11/2) and Calling the Wind (11/1 from 14/1), but the punters seem to be waiting for the likely defection of Trueshan, and a reformed market.
