Tuesday is the first of five eagerly-anticipated days of Royal Ascot – and there are three Group 1 races to start the big summer event off in style with Baaeed the headline attraction.

The opening contest at 14:30, the Queen Anne Stakes, is the first Group 1 of the day and features the brilliant unbeaten Baaeed (2/11), who, after six wins last year, got up and running with victory in the Lockinge at Newbury last month.

William Haggas’ son of Sea The Stars is expected to enhance his Flat superstar status further with yet more success on the opening day as he again takes on the Lockinge second, Real World (13/2), and Chindit (22/1), who was third in that race at Newbury.

After the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at 15:05, it’s the second Group 1 of the day at 15:40, when the likes of Nature Strip (2/1), Golden Pal (7/2), Twilight Calls (13/2) and Winter Power (20/1) line up in the King’s Stand Stakes.

Another Group 1, the St James’s Palace Stakes, follows on soon after at 16:20 and it’s a race in which Charlie Appleby’s Coroebus (4/5) looks like being the one to beat.

After impressively taking the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on his comeback, a Royal Ascot victory on Tuesday would confirm Coroebus as the leading three-year-old miler around. Meanwhile, Andrew Balding’s Berkshire Shadow (28/1), who won the Coventry Stakes here 12 months ago and caught the eye in the Guineas when finishing fifth, could be a lively outsider.

The Ascot Stakes is due off at 17:00, before the Listed Wolferton Stakes takes place at 17:35, in which Jessica Harrington’s Cadillac (13/2) appears set to head the market looking to follow up after winning well at Leopardstown 12 days ago.

The last race of the opening day of Royal Ascot is scheduled for 18:10 with 17 runners set to line up in the Copper Horse Stakes, a handicap which features Cleveland (2/1), who won the Chester Cup in May.
