A Betfred punter has lived up to his name, after winning big from an amazing football accumulator.
David Smart, nicknamed ‘Smarty’ since his school days, predicted the results of six Premier League fixtures on the final day of the season.
He was left sweating on one of his selections, an 18/1 shot, which needed Aston Villa to be leading Manchester City at half-time but Pep Guardiola’s eventual-champions to win after 90 minutes.
Carpenter David, a 41-year-old father from Winchester, couldn’t bring himself to bet on his beloved Southampton at Leicester and instead went for top-four chasing Arsenal to beat Everton, Leeds to avoid relegation with victory at Brentford, Newcastle to inflict defeat on Burnley and send them down into the Championship, Chelsea to triumph at home to already-relegated Watford and finally Crystal Palace to pick up all three points against Manchester United.
His five-pound, six-fold accumulator landed him a windfall of £4,668 – money he plans to spend on going to see Mickey Mouse at Disneyland in Florida.
David said: “I looked carefully at the games and took my dad’s advice to go for a Leeds win. Then I thought with Everton being safe they wouldn’t be good enough to beat Arsenal away from home.
“I didn’t think Burnley would be safe this season, and that Chelsea would be far too strong at home against Watford who were already down – while regarding Palace I knew they’d be looking to bounce back and Manchester United have been very disappointing this season.
“With City, I did think about Steven Gerrard and the Coutinho factor with their links to Liverpool, and I just fancied Villa to get ahead but City to come back strongly.
“It’s a nice win, but it’s not my biggest for in 2014 I won £5,000 also on a football accumulator.”
For any punters who want to follow David’s smart tactic, he reckons Real Madrid will be beating Liverpool at half-time in the Champions League final before Jurgen Klopp’s side make a comeback to win in 90 minutes – and that’s 22/1 at Betfred.
