Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl says his side are determined to add another notable result to their resume and spoil Liverpool’s title chances when the two sides meet on Tuesday evening (Southampton 15/2, Draw 9/2, Liverpool 4/11 – match result).
Saints’ season has unravelled of late, and they have dropped down to 15th in the Premier League table. Hasenhuttl’s side are only six points above the relegation zone, but they will avoid relegation this time around.
Although Southampton are without a win in their last four league meetings, they have picked up 11 points from their games against the top six.
Southampton have already beaten Arsenal and Tottenham, while they are unbeaten against both Manchester City and Manchester United.
Liverpool need to win to keep their slim title hopes alive, and Hasenhuttl says his team are motivated to end their campaign on a high.
He told the club’s official website: “I think we have shown in the past that we can be committed in these games. When I remember these games this season at home against the big teams, I remember the Tottenham game where we were one man down. We did a fantastic job against Arsenal. We have one [draw] against Man City. We have drawn against Man United.
“So we have shown against the top teams that we can, together, achieve something very big. And this is what we need on Tuesday evening.”
Liverpool, who are four points behind Manchester City, will be without Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk during their trip to St Mary’s, while Southampton could welcome back Fraser Forster and Stuart Armstrong.
