TIGER Roll would be a very popular winner indeed in today’s Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase
He’s in great nick according to trainer Gordon Elliott – and if he gets his favoured decent ground the pintsized favourite (above) will come alive, in what is highly-likely to be his last run.
What a career he’s had – winning this race three times as well as the Triumph Hurdle and National Hunt Chase, so he’ll be well used to the thousands at Cheltenham roaring him to what could be his final taste of glory.
Before then we have the eagerly-awaited feature, the Queen Mother Champion Chase, and the battle royal between Nicky Henderson’s Shishkin representing us on this side of the Irish Sea, and Energumene, one of the brightest stars from the Emerald Isle.
It is sure to be an epic rematch, after the then-unbeaten two-milers went head to head in the Clarence House Chase. Shishkin (above) is an odds-on favourite at Betfred after narrowly beating Energumene at Ascot in January, but you shouldn’t rule out Willie Mullins getting his revenge to keep his compatriots’ eyes smiling.
As for day one, well, it was quite frankly a disaster for us at Betfred with wins for favourites Constitution Hill, Edwardstone, and of course Honeysuckle. Very much one nil to you punters.
Fred.
