West Ham could move to within two points of third-placed Liverpool on Sunday when they host Leeds United at the London Stadium (Match betting – West Ham 4/6, Draw 16/5, Leeds 4/1).
The Hammers are fourth at present and they can cut the gap this weekend, should they win and Liverpool lose to Brentford at Anfield (Liverpool 1/4, Draw 5/1, Brentford 11/1 – match result).
After a run of five games without a win during December, David Moyes’ Irons have turned a corner, winning four in a row in all competitions.
West Ham should go into Sunday’s game full of confidence, having beaten Marcelo Bielsa’s team 2-0 in the FA Cup third round last weekend.
Midfield duo Tomas Soucek and Mark Noble are hoping to return, but the game comes too soon for Kurt Zouma.
Leeds have only won one of their previous six in the league, but their recent injury crisis is easing, with Pascal Struijk and Rodrigo due to return for Sunday’s battle at 14:00.
Liverpool are due to face Brentford at the same time, with three points enough to help them back into second place.
Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday has given Jurgen Klopp’s side the chance to make up some ground, but they will need to battle on without Naby Keita, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah, who are all at the Africa Cup of Nations.
James Milner, Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk are all expected to shake off knocks, while Brentford coach Thomas Frank is hoping both Sergio Canos and Rico Henry can pass fitness tests.
The Bees will need to improve their form on the road in order to earn a share of the points, with Frank’s side winless in their previous six on their travels in the Premier League.
