It’s the big question as we begin the New Year; which United will turn up against Wolves at Old Trafford tonight?

Will it be the dishevelled bunch who made Newcastle look like world beaters, or the group who rolled over Burnley with a much-improved performance that had us thinking about whether we had turned the corner, and we Reds could expect happier times in 2022?

We do need some consistency, that’s for sure. One player benefiting big time under the new Ralph Rangnick regime is Scott McTominay who suits the German’s tactics perfectly as he rarely gives an in inch, is full of energy, and with his academy background is proud to be wearing the famous red shirt.

Betfred match markets – Man Utd v Wolves

He’s 18/1 at Betfred to score first tonight just like he did against the Clarets. We are odds-on for a United win, with Cristiano Ronaldo (above) 11/4 favourite to score first and Mason Greenwood 5/1 to notch the opener.

As you know I’ve paid out early at a cost of the best part of £750,000 on City retaining their Premier League title. So I’m reckoning for us Reds, a top four finish is domestically the best we can hope for. Betfred have United @ evens for the top four, ahead of Spurs at 2/1, Arsenal at 5/2, while West Ham are available at 6/1.

Ronaldo (6/1) figures higher in the Betfred stakes in the race for the PL Golden Boot behind the outright odds-on favourite Mo Salah.

With City’s goals so widely spread we have Raheem Sterling (above) at 33/1 as the best bet amongst the Blues, with Gabriel Jesus and Phil Foden both available at 200/1.

Finally, my congratulations to a big winner from south Manchester who is back driving his tractor today, and indeed everyday. The farmworker won £83,509 with a 10p each-way Lucky 15 virtual horse racing wager at Betfred.

He may be 65 and a grandad, but the lucky punter who works dawn until dusk on a Cheshire farm has no plans to put his wellies away. He’s been working for 33 years at the same farm and his biggest-ever win won’t mean any change in his routine.

“Why should it …. I love my job because every day is different, ” said the Betfted regular who took “about a minute” to select all the outsiders for four races at Sprint Valley, Portman Park and Steepledowns on Christmas Eve.

He then went to his local pub – and on Christmas Day thought he was dreaming of Santa when he checked the results with all four first past the post within 16 minutes of each other.

Christmas lunch was special when he told the family of his good fortune. ” I must have checked the results four times …. I just couldn’t believe it, ” added the divorced father of five, who has five grandchildren.

He plans to give his eldest daughter a loan to pay off her mortgage, gifts for the rest of his family, and a very modest reward for himself …. an upgraded Ford Focus car.

Well done to this down to earth very hard-working customer. He’s following in the finest traditions of Betfred in that he’s won big from a tiny stake.

His prize has been boosted substantially by our promotion, with us paying a 50 per cent bonus on four winners on this fella’s favourite virtual bet. Very well played.
