Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has praised Liverpool (Match betting – Atletico Madrid 23/10, draw 12/5, Liverpool 5/4) for their quick start to the season but believes his side can find a way to beat Jurgen Klopp’s men.
The reigning La Liga champions play host to the Reds in a clash between the two top sides in Group B.
Liverpool (15/2 Champions League outright) are top after winning both of their opening games while Atletico (25/1) responded to an underwhelming goalless home draw with Porto by winning impressively 2-1 away at AC Milan.
In the perceived “Group of Death” the two favourites to advance through to the last 16 meet at the Metropolitano – the ground where Liverpool won their sixth European crown in 2019 when defeating Tottenham 2-0.
It also promises to be a big clash of styles with Simeone’s defensive-minded and functional Atletico team coming up against Klopp’s fluid and attacking Reds outfit.
This season the Spanish side have scored 11 goals in eight La Liga matches while Liverpool have netted 22 in the same number of fixtures.
Speaking to the press prior to Tuesday evening’s contest, the Argentine was full of admiration for Liverpool’s style of football but insists they will find a way to stop their attacking threat.
“They are going through a fantastic spell of football, they seem to have a different rhythm, and it is a pleasure to see them play,” said Simeone.
“They have no fear to leave spaces at the back. They press high, play a high line, have speed.
“We will try and find a way to hurt them.”
Simeone also confirmed he would give injured trio Marcos Llorente, Jose Gimenez, and Matheus Cunha every chance to be involved as they recover from injury problems.
“We have another training session to see how the three evolve from yesterday when they trained very well, and the expectation is that they can all play,” added the manager.
