Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti says he has every faith his team will bounce back from their defeat to Sheriff Tiraspol when they take on Espanyol on Sunday (Match odds – Espanyol 19/5, Draw 11/4, Real Madrid 7/10).
The Italian admits he has lost sleep since Tuesday’s shock result, with Madrid unable to get going against their Moldovan opponents.
Ancelotti will take confidence from the fact they are unbeaten in the league while they have won 20 of their last 23 games against Sunday’s opponents.
When asked about Sunday’s game, the former AC Milan coach told reporters: “The match against Sheriff hurt our pride, and I think we’ll react in this game.
“We’ll give our all like we also did against Sheriff. The evaluation of that game was quite simple, as we did well but made some little mistakes and lacked some clinical finishing. Physically, that affects me because I lose sleep as I keep thinking about what happened.
“That happens to me whenever we don’t win. Emotionally, though, it makes me stronger. All coaches receive criticism, but it’s better to receive it at Real Madrid than to be at another club.”
There are four other games taking place in the Spanish top-flight, with Elche tackling Celta Vigo, Getafe hosting Real Sociedad and Villarreal meeting Real Betis, while the final match sees Granada face off against Sevilla.
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich can restore their four-point cushion at the top of the table if they beat Eintracht Frankfurt (Bayern 6/5 – to win to nil).
Julian Nagelsmann’s side are just one point above Borussia Dortmund, but they have won their last nine matches and should have too much quality for Frankfurt.
Elsewhere in Germany, Mainz host Union Berlin, while Arminia Bielefeld will do battle with Bayer Leverkusen.
In Serie A, Napoli will look to bounce back from their 3-2 Europa League defeat against Spartak Moscow when they travel to Florence to face Fiorentina (Match odds – Fiorentina 11/4, Draw 5/2, Napoli evens).
I Partenopei sit top of the table in Italy, but they could lose their spot at the summit if they fail to win and AC Milan beat Atalanta.
There are six games scheduled in Serie A on Sunday, while there are also seven Ligue 1 matches to look forward to, with PSG, Lille and Lyon all in action.
