The bottom two sides in the Men’s Hundred meet at a sold-out Lord’s on Tuesday evening as Northern Superchargers take on the London Spirit (Match Betting – Spirit Evens, Superchargers 4/5).
The Headingley outfit finally got off the mark on Saturday with a six-wicket win over the other capital franchise, Oval Invincibles, and take on the only team in the competition without a victory.
Spirit have been let down by their more experienced batsmen, with the likes of Eoin Morgan, Joe Denly and Ravi Bopara failing to fire in the new format.
Openers Adam Rossington (45) and Josh Inglis (55) carried the team in their last match but were the only Spirit players to get into double figures and are 7/2 and 9/4 respectively to be their team’s leading run-scorer.
Superchargers remain without two of their key men in Faf du Plessis and Ben Stokes, and stand-in skipper David Willey has had to rely on his bowlers to keep things going.
England’s World Cup-winning spinner Adil Rashid has been particularly sharp, taking six wickets in the competition to continue his form from the recent T20 series against Pakistan.
The 33-year-old is the 3/1 favourite to be his team’s leading wicket-taker at Lord’s and he and fellow spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 18/5 in that same market, will be hoping for some assistance from the surface in St John’s Wood.
Chris Lynn (48) and Harry Brook (47) also showed up well in that win over the Invincibles and the visitors may need more of the same having demonstrated similar inconsistency to their hosts with the bat.
Earlier in the day, the women’s teams face off and it has been a different story for Northern Superchargers in that tournament, winning three of their four matches and they will go top if they beat the second bottom Spirit (Match Betting – Spirit 21/20, Superchargers 8/11).
A victory will see the visitors go top of the standings, leapfrogging Southern Brave who head to Old Trafford to face Manchester Originals on Thursday.
