Barry Hearn pulled no punches when talking exclusively to Betfred TV at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Thursday night, claiming that the mega fight everyone wants to see between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua might never happen.
The legendary promoter, who presides over Matchroom who negotiate on behalf of AJ, went as far as to say that the self-titled Gypsy King is ‘ducking’ the fight of the century.
“I’m doubtful [if the fight will happen],” said Hearn. “The money that was available last time didn’t do it.
“I want to say, put up or shut up. Get in the ring. Give the public what they want.”
Asked whether he thought Fury was ducking the chance to fight AJ, he agreed: “There’s no doubt about it.
“Let’s hope that common sense comes back into the equation and they give the fight fans of the world what we want.
“There’s hundreds of millions of pounds in it for the fighters and they’re going to never want for anything the rest of their life. All the fight fans want, myself included, is to watch the fight.”
