Brett Hodgson has told his Hull FC side to prepare for a “real physical game” when they travel to the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday evening to take on Huddersfield Giants in the Betfred Super League (Huddersfield 11/8, Draw 22/1, Hull FC 4/6 – Match Winner in 80 minutes).

The Black and Whites occupy fourth position in the table, having won seven of their 11 matches, but they have not played since beating the Giants 17-10 at the MKM Stadium on June 25.

Hodgson’s men have missed the last three fixtures due to Covid-19 issues and they are still without the services of Jake Connor, Josh Griffin, Jamie Shaul, Masi Matongo and Scott Taylor on Thursday, due to injury or coronavirus protocols.

A near-month break has managed to help certain players return from injury, however, and Carlos Tuimavave (8/11 – Anytime Tryscorer), Josh Bowden, Adam Swift, Danny Houghton (3/1) and Jordan Lane are all back in the squad after missing that win over Huddersfield.

The Airlie Birds (10/1 – Grand Final Winner) are looking to extend their winning streak to four, but even though they are taking on a Giants outfit that are on a seven-match losing run and sitting in 11th, Hodgson is expecting an intense game and has warned against complacency.

He said at his pre-match press conference: “They’ll give us a real physical game – they’ve competed well in a lot of their games of late, and against us, we were 10-0 down at half-time, and they ran Wigan close twice.

“They don’t seem to lose heavily, so we need to make sure we’re up for a big physical game because that is what they bring. Us ourselves are in a good position after this break, but it’ll count for nothing if we don’t respect what is ahead of us for the rest of the season.”

The Giants welcome back Owen Trout to their squad as they look to get back to winning ways, while Leroy Cudjoe could make his 300th appearance for the club.

Just seven points was the gap when these two teams met back in June and one of Betfred’s #PickYourPunt specials is for either team to win by 1-10 points, which is available at 4/7.
