Mateusz Klich and Robin Koch will miss Leeds United’s clash with Southampton on Tuesday after boss Marcelo Bielsa (pictured) confirmed they would not play again this season (Southampton 17/10, Draw 11/4, Leeds 29/20 – Match Betting).
Leeds (33/1 to finish in the bottom half) will travel to St Mary’s on the back of successive wins in the Premier League, while Southampton have also won their last two games in the top flight.
Klich scored and starred in Leeds’ 4-0 success over Burnley on Saturday, while Koch has impressed in midfield in recent weeks, while he did not play at Turf Moor due to injury.
With the European Championships on the horizon, Bielsa has decided to rest both players in order to boost their chances of reaching peak fitness.
He told reporters: “Koch has been given early leave with the potential for him to be called up, or not called up, to the national team.
“The injury he has is not important; we didn’t want to take the risk of him playing and making it worse. We anticipated his holidays in the same way we did for Klich. In this case, he wasn’t injured, but we thought we could anticipate his holidays for one week.
“Klich is not injured. The evolutions that I make over the campaign and for the needs of each player and in the case of Klich the decision I made I think was the most favourable one for him.”
Playmaker Pablo Hernandez faces a fitness test ahead of kick-off on Tuesday, while Southampton will be boosted by the news that Oriol Romeu is fit enough to return.
The Spaniard has spent the last three months on the sidelines with an ankle injury, while Jan Bednarek has overcome a heel problem and could also start.
