Carlo Ancelotti says he holds a “great desire” to guide Everton into the Champions League and he believes this week could prove pivotal in shaping their season.

The Toffees have been in impressive form of late, winning five of their last six Premier League games, a run that sees them start this week sitting sixth in the standings and with at least one game in hand on all the teams above them.

Next up for Ancelotti’s side is a clash with Leicester City at Goodison Park on Wednesday (Everton 15/8, Draw 9/4, Leicester 8/5 – Match Betting), before they play host to Newcastle United three days later and a maximum return from those two games could see Everton end the week sitting in the top four.

Ancelotti certainly feels this could prove a pivotal period in Everton’s season and he believes they will have a clearer idea of what there ambitions are by Saturday night (Everton 1/2, Draw 10/3, Newcastle 6/1 – Match Betting).

“The games against Leicester and Newcastle will be important for us to understand where we want to be and would like to be in the future,” the Italian said at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Leicester game.

“We want to fight for the top four, top six. The fact we are going to play at home in our next two games [means that] after Saturday we know where we are going to be in the future.”

Ancelotti is certainly fully motivated to see Everton return to the Champions League as soon as possible, with the Toffees having not secured a top-four finish in the Premier League since the 2004-05 season under David Moyes.

“To take Everton to the Champions League is a fantastic motivation for me,” the 61 year-old added. “It is a great, great desire. This is the target we have for the future.”
