In an exclusive interview with Barry Hearn, he revealed that the Betfred World Snooker Championship will take place in April, at The Crucible
After a terrific tournament in Milton Keynes for the Betfred Masters, all eyes are now focused towards the Betfred World Snooker Championship.
But there remain question marks as to whether the tournament can take place in its spiritual home, the famous Crucible arena in Sheffield, due to COVID-19 protocols.
However, Hearn says he’s committed to the tournament staying in it’s rightful setting, stressing it could be played behind closed doors, just as the Betfred Masters was, due to health and safety concerns.
Hearn also sung the praises of Betfred Masters winner Yao Bingtao, declaring him a “special talent” at only 20 years of age, being able to withstand the high-pressure environment of a major event, against seasoned, outstanding champions.
“I’m not going to say he’s favourite for the World Championships, I think that puts too much pressure on him. I think Judd Trump’s season is not going away. Nevertheless, Yao Bingtao has been successful against proven winners.”
Barry discussed a variety of topics in a video call with Betfred TV’s Mark Pearson, confirming that in 45 years of watching and attending top snooker tournaments he felt this last week in Milton Keynes was right up there with the very best the sport has produced.
Hearn also said he felt a responsibility to put on a show of top class snooker for everybody to enjoy during these tough times.
We appreciate that, Barry.
It’s well worth a listen as to what the Matchroom supremo shared in conversation with Mark.
