Betfred have seen a last-minute surge of support for Donald Trump ahead of the US election.

Over the last 24 hours, the odds on the President keeping the keys to The White House have shortened from 13/8 to 11/8.

This election has clearly captured the public’s imagination, with over £3million staked at Betfred so far – including a £140,000 single, which was placed in one of our shops in the south west of England yesterday, on Trump at 13/8.

Trump is behind in almost every poll across the pond, but that hasn’t stopped the 74-year-old campaigning in key battlegrounds of North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania – the home of his Democrat rival Joe Biden.

Polls close at midnight UK time, with all eyes on the key barometer state Florida.

If Biden takes the state, which so often calls the presidency, it will – according to expert pundits – be nearly impossible for Trump to be re-elected.

The COVID pandemic has made this election like no other before, with the chances of a winner being declared on the night drastically reduced given so many Americans have taken to postal voting.

That means the result may be delayed by days, or even weeks, as each candidate looks to get the magic number of 270 electoral college votes.

Despite the late support for Trump, Biden remains favourite to win the election at 4/7 – and the Democrats are as short as 1/7 to win the popular vote.
